The accepted wikipedia definition of workflow is:

"The sequence of industrial, administrative, or other processes through which a piece of work passes from initiation to completion"

Therefore an electronic workflow is:

"The electronic sequence a piece of work passes through from cradle to grave"

Most computer systems follow a client/server relationship passing files or data between the client and the servers and carrying out operations on this data. The most basic functions of the Internet are "PUT" and "GET". You can probably see that electronic workflow encompasses sending electronic things back and forth.

Liken it to a game of ping pong. The more you can keep the ball in the oppisite court, the more efficient you are at completing your workflow...
