John is currently a clinical psychology PhD student in the Virginia Consortium Program. This semester he is taking advance social psychology and family systems. A Michigan native, John completed his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University, where he earned a BS in Psychology with additional tracks in both Pre-Medicine and Military Science in the spring of 2013. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was granted an education delay to further his academic career before returning to active duty status. Prior to entering the consortium, he lived in Florence, S.C, where he graduated with an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Francis Marion University. His research there involved investigating barriers veterans have to receive counseling, looking into positive approaches to addictions, and examining behavioral health interventions for chronic pain patients. As a result of collaborating with several medical health professionals during his capstone internship at a family medicine residency program, he became interested in the use of integrated care models. After graduating FMU, he was hired as an adjunct faculty member to teach health psychology courses. John is currently a first year in the Virginia Consortium Program for Clinical Psychology, where he works with Dr. Skye Margolies at EVMS on research with ACT and its use for chronic pain patients with insomnia. He enjoys spending quality time with friends, family, and his pet tortoise, Rupert. In his spare time, John can be found relaxing in his hammock, watching college sports, swaying at a reggae concert, or sampling spirits at the local brewery.
