Fyodor Alyoshin's profitable house
Description of the building[edit]
Pavlo Alyoshin designed a profitable house on Sofiyivskyi Maidan for his businessman father, in the past a simple artilleryman-contractor. There were 54 apartments and even one garage in the three buildings of the building. The most expensive of them were in the central building and contained 7-8 rooms. An art studio and 13 living rooms with special sleeping niches are located on the last floor. Each apartment was assigned a woodshed, an icehouse with a cold chamber, a laundry room, a cellar, and an attic. In addition to the two passenger elevators, a special elevator for firewood and laundry worked on the black stairs.
During the battles for Kyiv in 1943, the building burned down. They did not restore the building because of bourgeois nationalism, and in a few years it was completely dismantled. However, the exact drawings of the building have been preserved in the archives.
