James Tibbett is from the NSW coastal town of Forster. He studied at Forster Primary School, Forster High and Great Lakes College before moving to Sydney for University. He studied Mining Engineering at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) before completing his PhD in Mining Geomechanics at the School of Mining Engineering UNSW.

Upon graduation from his PhD, James worked as the Virtual Reality Development Manager at the School of Mining Engineering UNSW. He has since left UNSW to join the team at Vantage Interactive and to pursue his Entrepreneurial aspirations.
