Local elections are scheduled to be held in Santa Cruz, Laguna on Monday, May 12, 2025, as part of the 2025 Philippine general election. The electorate will elect a town Mayor, a town Vice Mayor, eight Members of the Santa Cruz Municipal Council, as well as Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, a Governor, a Vice Governor and a Representative for the Province's fourth congressional district in the House of Representatives. The officials who will be elected in the election will assume their respective offices on June 30, 2025, for a three-year-long term.

Background[edit]

In the 2022 elections, Edgar San Luis and Laarni Malibiran were re-elected to the Mayoralty and Vice Mayoralty respectively. San Luis' coaliton, Team Serbisyong Tama, won 4 seats in the Municipal Council. While the opposition, Team Agarao Never Stops won 4 seats (with 1 seat from their guest candidate).

Recall election[edit]

On July 14, 2023, one year after the election. Some groups and individuals went to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in Santa Cruz to file their 22-page petition for a Recall election for the position of Mayor against the incumbent Mayor Edgar San Luis, incumbent Councilor Rizaldy Kalaw, Juanito Fajardo and Ernestro Palomique headed the filing of the petition. The document was received by the Municipal Election Officer Donna Lee–Eslit. The reason for what purpose they filed the petition againts Mayor San Luis is Loss of Trust and Confidence, Alleged Graft and Corruption, Flagrant Negligence, Incompetence, Abuse of Power and Dereliction of Duty. The Petitioner's claimed that they have gathered more than the required number of signatures needed to support their request for the recall election. According to them, they have exceeded the minimum criteria of 15 percent or 15,000 of the voting population, as specified in the Comelec guidelines on recall elections. The petitioner's asked the Poll body to give due course to their instant Petition. To order the immediate conduct of the verification of the petitioner's signatures and thumbmarks, and upon determining that the required number of petitioner's have been attained. The conduct to a recall elections are pursuant to the provisions of the Comelec Resolution no. 10649 and the other laws and Jurisprudence on the matter. The petition is the first to be filed against an incumbent official in Laguna for the term of 2022 until 2025.

On July 17, 2023, three days after the said complaint was filed and accepted by the Comelec, Mayor Edgar San Luis officially answer's the questions of his supporter's, he said that who ever is the person behind all of this accusation's will be prosecuted, San Luis also added that only on the early month of 2023, that rumor's spreed that someone is buying signature's from the voter's and giving bribe's such as five hundred pesos and three to five kilos of rice to those who signed in the petition.
