Jason Hitchings

[edit]

Jason Hitchings is a technologist, startup advisor, and serial entrepreneur living in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Financial Technology firm Capital Market Laboratories (CML), which is doing business as cmlviz.com.

Career

[edit]

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a degree in Computer Science in 2002, Jason began his career at Lockheed Martin, working in Autonomic Logistics for the JSF program. Despite receiving promotions and various accolades, the large bureaucracy and unnecessary complex requirements process (CMMI Level 4) pushed the young engineer to find smaller, faster paced companies that could keep up with the pace of his development and ideation.

After working on a World War II simulator, Texas Hold'em Poker engine, and several other endeavors, Jason met stock market option traders Stefen Choy and Ron Horwath, and in early 2006 was persuaded to join their option analytics startup, Maxima Analytics, which would later be renamed to Livevol. Jason led the engineer effort at Livevol for nearly 7 years, rising to the position of VP of Engineer. He built and managed a diverse suite of applications, including tick by tick option databases on custom built hardware; a live, streaming, queryable, option-pricing engine; and the advanced, option analysis front end, then known as Livevol Pro. Livevol grew to over 50 employees and 7 million a year in revenue before being sold to the options exchange CBOE. Livevol's brokerage business was sold off separately do to regulations preventing exchanges from operating brokerages.

For the following year, Jason traveled globally, consulting with a range of startups while holding board seats with SoundFlake and StoryBoarder, before taking the Lead Product Manager role at visualization platform Quid. At Quid, Jason built out team of product managers, reworked the complex UX flow, and introduced several new datasets to the platform before being lured away to take the role of CTO with his former Livevol colleague, Ophir Gottlieb, in his new startup Capital Market Laboratories (CML).

At CML Jason and Ophir built a suite of financial visualization tools, a research product, simply named CML Pro, before finally creating their original ambition, a fully feature option trading scanner and backtester, known as CML TradeMachine. The TradeMachine proved to be an immediate success with Ophir Gottlieb's well established options trader following, and the product rapidly evolved to including scanning, alerting, research insight, and trade sharing features. CML enjoys rapid growth in its product offers, and a large community of dedicated customer advocates who help CML reach an ever wider circle of traders looking for tools that put them on level footing with the hedge funds and prop trading shops that have otherwise been capturing the vast majority of trading profits in the market.
