Revised paragraph from article

[edit]

Original

[edit]

Neonatal nursing is the provision of nursing care for newborn infants up to 28 days after birth. The term neonatal comes from neo, "new", and natal, "pertaining to birth or origin".[1] Neonatal nurses are a vital part of the neonatal care team.

Revised

[edit]

Neonatal nursing is a provision of nursing that works with newborn infants with a wide range of problems from birth defects, prematurity infection, cardiac malformations and surgical problems. The neonatal period is defined as the first month of life. Neonatal nurses may care for infants up to two years of age usually from the time they are born to the time that they leave the hospital. 40,000 low birth weight infants are born annually in the United States. Survival rates are 10 times better now than they were 15 years ago.[5]

Original Contribution

[edit]

I decided another section should be added to the Wikipedia article for every person that wants to become a Neonatal Nurse they should know what to expect.

The Neonatal Nurse is responsible for all the total care of the assigned patients load. They will be assessing , planning delegating implementing and evaluating care. Nurses must take individual bedside reports of the assigned patients or patients at the beginning of the shift. They must be available to all rooms at all times ti observe and monitor infants. Keep the CTM informed about major changes of the patients condition and possible transfers. [4]
