Early Career
[edit]G. Smith Jackson was born in Dothan, Alabama. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama.
In his academic career, he has worked as Dean of Students at Huntington College, and other various positions at Auburn University, Saint Louis, and other schools . He would later go on to earn his doctorate in counselor education from Auburn University.
Elon Career
[edit]Jackson accepted his first position, Dean of Students, at Elon in 1994. In 1998, he was also promoted to Vice President for Student Life and now serves both duties, which include overseeing various departments including dining services.
Elon Legend
[edit]Jackson is quite reputable on-campus for his warning emails sent to students and faculty in the event of crimes, such as the “Serial Masturbator” during the 2009-2010 school year. This has caused many Elon students to view him as a celebrity and a common saying among students is “Don’t be a Smith Jackson email.” Some students have said they avoid him for fear of an ensuing crime occurring while in his presence. A Facebook fan page, carrying the title, "Smith Jackson: The Man, The Myth, The Legend" has recently been created among Elon students.
