Egīls Venters (born April 22, 1964) is a Latvian writer.[1]
Biography
[edit]Born in Riga in 1964. His father Kārlis Venteris was an chemist and his mother an medic.
Worked at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, magazines "Grāmata", "Karogs" and newspaper "Literatūra un Māksla". Member of the Writers' Union of Latvia since 2005.
He has published literary reviews, stories and essays in the magazines "Karogs" and "Grāmata", in the newspapers "Literatura un Māksla" and "konTEKTS".
Participated in the international literary project "Sealines" in Koper (2007), the Vilenica International Literary Festival (2008) and the Frankfurt Book Fair (2023).
There have been several collections of stories - ''Melnā sērija'' (1992), ''Štābs debesīs'' (2020), the micro-novels ''Melanholijas skaidrojošā vārdnīca (2000), ''Mainīgā interevence'' (2012), ''Atlantīdā, kāda tā ir'' (2015), as also the collection of essays "Zemeslēkts" (2010).
Awards
[edit]The book "Mainīgā intervence" was nominated for the Latvian Literature of the Year Award (2013) and received Dz. Soduma Prize for Innovation in Literature (2013).
The crime fiction selection "Poseidona galva" (2017) was nominated for the Latvian public media annual award "Kilograms kultūras" (2017).
The documentary novel "Šķirotavas stāsts" (2024) received the main prize in the contest "Riga Neighborhoods Through the Ages" organized by the Center of Residents of Riga Neighborhoods.
