Does anyone know anything about the cultivation of Boswellia thurifera, sacra, carterii, papyrifera, or frereana? These are the trees that produce the sap used to make frankincense. They grow in Yemen, India, Somalia, and elsewhere. However the facts of reproduction, cultivation, range of enviornments and soils in which they will grow well and other requirements of cultivation are not now included in wiki. Is this plant cultivated in the american southwest? Are the seeds or seedlings available in the u.s.? Because these plants produce a highly valued product, it would seem that they could be cultivated as any other crop tree such as pecan, walnut, carob etc. I am ignorant about this topic, but curious and would appreciate any accurate information anyone might be able to provide either here or on the page devoted to this plant. Thanks.
