James Lawrence Phillips Born August 23,1946 Lansing MIchigan
From 1965 to 1969 Sgt Phillips served with distinction in the United States Marines and received two promotions as a Machine Gunner in the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam. He returned to the U.S. and went through training at Parris Island to be in charge of the Testing for the FMF Atlantic. He became the NCOIC of the Testing for the FMF Atlantic and in 1969 he recieved his Honorable discharge from the Marines.
Graduated from Michigan State University in 1976 and went to work for S.C.Johnson Inc. the same year. He started as a Territory Manager and within 9 Months he was promoted faster than anyone in the history of the company to District Manager in charge of the Chemical division for Southern California. That next year His district was won the award for the most inproved and they met all their sales quotas and received bonuses for the first time in years.
The pay was not very good and the cost of living was high in Southern California so Mr. Phillips left SC Johnson and went to work for a Medical distributor.
He worked for several years as a Distributor Sales Person both in California and in Indiana.
In 1984 he had the opportunity to Start Walker Medical Group for Bill Walker,(the inventor of the Lapin Clear Cut Electro-Surgical Device). Mr Phillips Built this company into a multi-million dollar company over three years and it was then sold to a large Medical company. In 1987 Mr. Phillips along with his partner Dale Richardson started Medical Surgical Specialties and built the company into a major Cardiovasular company with patents for Cardicad TM, Spirix TM and other products for Cardiovascular Surgery. In 1989 the company was sold to International Research and Development, A NYSE company and James L. Phillips was on the Board of Directors and was put in charge of finding other acquisitions for the parent company. In 1991 he received the remainder of his money for the purchase and retired and moved to Cary NC.
In 1992 He founded PHILLIPS MEDICAL GROUP, A company established to repair endoscopes made by every manufacturer and he did this for about half of what it cost to have it repaired by the original manufacturer. By 1999 it had grown to a 2million dollar a year business with Phillips Medical Group in Cary NC, Phillips Medical of Florida in Sarasota Florida, Advanced Surgical Instrumentation in Greenville SC and Phillips Medical of Nevada in Los Vegas. The accounting was difficult and the companies were Still growing and in need of better controls and so James started Worldendoscopy and had this company acquire all the other companies under one holding company.
