On 2007, Jan Michael Chu (founder of Wreckzalpedals), an Architecture student of University of San Carlos - Technological Center, searches a new dimension to his guitar sound. He started playing guitar in his sophomore years during high school, but was never in a band after he went to college with small performances in their intramurals, where he played bass guitar.

Jan became a member of philmusic.com, this made him meet a lot of musicians and friends online. He met Markv who is known for his Britmodand the now known shredhead [1]

. He reads a lot of topics related to his interests and widen up his knowledge on guitar techniques, branded and boutique pedals, amplifications, and all other guitar related stuff.

His first guitar pedal was the zoom G1X [2] and a boss DS-1 [3]. After using those gears, he wanted to try something more (including MarkV's Britmod done to his DS-1) and wanted to have analog effects but can not afford to buy it. He decided to sell his digital effect and buy an analog instead, but it did not go well as planned. He now has GAS.

He then met Kenneth Ramos, an officemate and a guitarist who is also into pedals. Kenneth showed him some of his gears and lend some of it to Jan.

He wanted to acquire it using some skills, patience, and help from some friends Aaron Lozano (computer engineer) & Renan Dalo (electronics communication engineering student) to sort out data, instructions, technical (electronic and computer terms), procedures and all the things he can possibly think of.

One afternoon, they have met and talked about building a guitar effects pedal where Jan's girlfriend hesitated at the start. The trio decided to make it appropriate to Jan's taste. Jan has the idea but can never realized it, he chose to make a circuit based on a popular and expensive overdrive pedal. After gathering all the informations, components, and parts. They were very anxious in forming the circuit out from the schematic, and after an hour, the circuit PROTO-1 has been finished. Despite the fact that both of his friends knew what they were doing, the circuit did not worked. Debugging was quite hard for them since they forgot the most important tool in electronics, the multimeter. Only after PROTO-1 was formed, they realized that Jan forgot something.

Jan decided to quit his hobby when he was about to take his Architecture Licensure Examinations. Her girlfriend asked him to concentrate on his reviews. After taking the exams, Jan went back to the PROTO-1 to figure it out himself. He was digging up files from the internet and asked some help from his uncle which is an Audio-Video supervisor/Electronics to make him understand more of the basics in electronics, it took him quite awhile to learn.

After several trials and errors, Jan finally made another one which was the stratoblaster booster

, which made Jan's friends laughed on the name. It was a successful build and has ran it on his board for a couple of weeks. It was enclosed in a plastic casing, with a toggle switch instead of a 3PDT Footswitch [4]

Scrunch.  The Scrunch  is different from the PROTO-1, because it was a distortion pedal, and it has a different circuitry which was new for him at that time.  He has corrected the errors that were done in PROTO-1 and made it sound
