Introduction
[edit]Professor Joe Goldblatt is, according to John Wiley & Sons, Inc., the foremost authority in the field of events management. He is the author, co - author and editor of over 30 books in the field of events management. His most recent book is his memoirs entitled The True Joy of Life (2019). He served as the founding president of the International Special Events Society which now has over 5000 members in over 30 countries worldwide. He recently received the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award (2019) and is the recipient of three other lifetime achievement awards and was the first academic to be inducted into the International Festivals and Events Association Hall of Fame.

[edit]Joe Jeff Goldblatt was born in Dallas, Texas on 4 June 1952. His mother was Rosa Langlois deBlanc and his father was Max B. Goldblatt who served as a city councilman and laterwas a candidate Mayor of the City of Dallas, Texas. He lived in Dallas until his eighteenth birthday when he attended the University of Texas Department of Drama. He left the University and founded the Georgetown Area Community Theatre in Georgetown, Texas. He later returned to higher education and graduated in 1975 summa cum laude from St. Edward's University. He then travelled to Washington, DC where he began his career and with his wife Nancy Ruth Lynner, started their family.
Career
[edit]The career of Joe Jeff Goldblatt spans nearly 45 years. His career began upon the sidewalks of Washington, DC where he performed mime, magic and tap dancing for tourists. He and his wife then formed a mime company entitle The Wonder Company that performed throughout the United States and Europe. The Wonder Company later became a major event production firm in Washington, DC with offices in the Watergate office building. The Wonder Company produced the Salute to the First Lady Barbara Bush as part of the bi - centennial of the US presidential inauguration for George H.W. Walker Bush. Previously The Wonder Company produced events for the President Ronald Reagan White House, the opening of the Nashville, Tennessee Convention Center and many other prominent events throughout the world. In 1992, Joe Goldblatt returned to University and earned his Master of Tourism Administration and Doctorate of High Education Leadership at The George Washington University. In 2001, Dr. Goldblatt was appointed Dean of the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2003 Dr. Goldblatt was appointed as executive director for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Finally, in 2007, Dr. Goldblatt accepted a post at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland and served until 31 May 2019 when he retired from the University to undertake independent consulting and speaking opportunities.

[edit]Professor Goldblatt has been married for over 40 years to Nancy Ruth Lynner and they are the parents of two sons, Max Darwin Goldblatt (New York City) and Samuel deBlanc Goldblatt (Edinburgh, Scotland). They are also the grandparents of Hamish Knowles Goldblatt.
