Royal New Kent Golf Club, located in New Kent County, Virginia, is a Mike Strantz designed course that Strantz modeled after two of his favorite Irish courses, Royal County Down Golf Club and Ballybunion Golf Club. Royal New Kent is one of seven courses Strantz designed and built from scratch that opened in 1997. Royal New Kent, located between Richmond, Virginia and Williamsburg, Virginia, is a public golf course that also offers memberships. Under new ownership in 2018, the course was completely renovated and reopened in 2019. Royal New Kent, even though it is not located on a body of water, is considered and known as a Links style golf course having been designed to have a unique Irish design and feel. In 202O, Royal New Kent won Golf Inc. Magazine's Renovation of the Year award. In 2021, Royal New Kent was included on Golfweek Magazine's list of Top 100 Public Golf Courses in the United States.
