Andrew Rossow (born December 13, 1989) is a licensed and practicing attorney, journalist, law professor, serial entrepreneur, and anti-bullying activist.
Rossow was born in Dallas, Texas, where he grew up in the county of Plano. He attended college at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York, where he graduated with a double BA in pre-law and business marketing, from the Zarb School of Business. During his junior year of college, Rossow enrolled in The University of Virginia, embarking on Semester At Sea, where he sailed on the MV Explorer for three months, visiting over 15 countries. In 2012, Rossow attended The University of Dayton School of Law, in Dayton, Ohio, where he graduated with a J.D. in intellectual property law. He received his law license from the Ohio Supreme Court in February 2016, having passed the Ohio Bar Exam.
Legal Career[edit]
Rossow received his J.D. from The University of Dayton School of Law in Dayton, Ohio in May 2015[1]. While in law school, Rossow clerked for the Honorable Barbara P. Gorman with the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, drafting court opinions on a variety of cases, ranging from death penalty and opioid-related cases, to commercial litigation and search-and-seizure contesations. After passing the Ohio Bar Exam, Rossow joined Gregory M. Gantt Co. L.P.A., a Dayton-based law firm. While there, he handled a number of cases in the areas of criminal defense, cybersecurity law, contract law, and personal injury. The firm also served as Special Counsel to then-Ohio Attorney General and current Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine.
Upon joining the firm, Rossow was asked to join Mike DeWine's CYBEROHIO Initiative, as the youngest member to serve on the legislative committee, helping to draft and shape cybersecurity laws for The State of Ohio. Since Governor DeWine’s transition out of the Office of the Attorney General, the CYBEROHIO Initiative has since been dissolved. In 2018, Rossow formed a single-member law firm, Rossow Law, LLC, where he represented clients in matters involving criminal defense, concentrating on remedying the national opioid crisis in Montgomery County.
Journalism[edit]
Rossow attributes his current career in media journalism as a “lucky accident”, following the release of the augmented-reality mobile game, Pokemon Go. In July 2016, Rossow published a legal thesis outlining the legal implications mobile-AR gaming brings to the everyday consumer, using the newly-launched Pokemon Go game, as a case study. Upon its publication by the Ohio State Bar Association’s Ohio Lawyer, Rossow became the first attorney in the United States to accurately predict the legal battlefield that subsequently ensued involving the legal rights of the game’s developers, Niantic and Pokemon Company, as well as its users. The article went viral, garnering media attention from local Dayton media affiliates, including, Dayton247 (formerly Fox45/ABC22), CBS Dallas, WFAA 8 Dallas, which eventually led to an invitation to join HuffPost as a Legal Contributor.
Forbes (April 2018 - November 2018)
After six months writing as a legal contributor for HuffPost, Rossow then transitioned to Forbes, helping launch their digital monies section (now, Forbes Crypto)[2]. Rossow has interviewed nationally recognized household names, including, but not limited to Dallas Cowboys linebacker Devonte Holloman, Shark Tank’s Kevin Harrington, Mark Cuban, and Robert Herjavec, Christine McComas, mother and voice to Grace McComas, Lucifer actor Tom Ellis, along with showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, CNET co-founder, Halsey Minor, NBA’s Sacramento Kings organization, U.S. House of Agriculture, AngelList founder Kendrick Nguyen, Walmart, IBM, HP Enterprises, Michele Romanow, and countless others.
Grit Daily News (November 2018 - April 2020)
In November 2018, Rossow teamed up with award-winning journalist and Executive Editor at Grit Daily News, as co-founder and Managing Editor[3]. In a matter of months, Rossow grew Grit Daily’s readership and monthly visitors significantly, interviewing household names, including, but not limited to Mark Cuban, Kevin Harrington, SXSW’s Chief Programming Officer Hugh Forrest, Dragon’s Den ‘dragon’ Michele Romanow, Billy Ray Cyrus, Taylor Hicks, in addition to a number of talent throughout Hollywood and Silicon Valley. In March 2020, both Rossow and Grit Daily were recognized by Fast Company for their resilience in providing a safe-haven for attendees for the then-cancelled SXSW 2020 festival in Austin, Texas. Rossow was quoted saying that he, along with Grit Daily, “wanted to keep the spirit of South By going...ensuring that for those individuals, brands, and everybody that’s been part of the South By tradition still had somewhere to be, something to take part in. We don’t stop living. We do take caution, always. But we wanted to keep the community of Austin hopeful and happy. In April 2020, Rossow and Grit Daily were recognized again by Entrepreneur Magazine, for how event organizers cultivate resilience in times of short-term losses, referring to the cancellation of SXSW 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rossow stepped down as Managing Editor at Grit Daily in April 2021, in pursuit of other entrepreneurial and editorial opportunities.
CoinTelegraph (April 2019 - Present)
Since April 2019, Rossoe has been writing as an Opinion Writer for the blockchain and cryptocurrency news outlet, CoinTelegraph[4]. He has interviewed household names, including, but not limited to Vitalik Buterin, Brock Pierce, Halsey Minor, Mark Cuban, among countless others.
True Hollywood Talk (April 2020 - Present)
In June 2021, Rossow took on the position of co-founder and Senior Legal Editor at entertainment news outlet, True Hollywood Talk, alongside founders John Gumboc and Nitish Kanan. He currently writes there. In the summer of 2021, one of Rossow’s pieces on the aftermath of the Ellen DeGeneres controversy, went viral, attracting the attention of Ellen TV executive producer, Andy Lassner, receiving an email from Lassner, with just two words: “thank you”. True Hollywood Talk serves as accredited media for the GRAMMYs, SXSW, Sundance Film & Music Festival, and the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Media Consulting[edit]
In December 2020, Rossow launched AR Media Consulting, a multi-service media consulting and reputation management firm, based in Austin, Texas, with a secondary location in Tampa, Florida, in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic. AR Media helps to leverage relationships throughout the media and journalism landscape, helping to facilitate contractual relationships, along with brand and reputation management services to Hollywood talent. Current clients include Hollywood media executive Lorenzo Rusin, TV actor Jason Gann, TikTok’s Gavin Magnus, Nashville’s Jesslee, Heartlyn Rae, and Dave McElroy, O.A.R. keyboardist MikelParis, Netflix stars of “The Circle”, Chris Sapphire and Shubham Goel, along with rising teen actresses Mylah Caputo, Alyssa Oster, and Bella Alexandras. AR Media was also tasked with product placement in major Hollywood films, including, Coming 2 America, 007: No Time to Die, and Top Gun: Maverick.
