History of Ruacana
[edit]Ruacana Falls is among the largest waterfalls in Africa both based on volume and width, at Ruacana the Kunene plummets into a 120 metre deep and 700 metre wide gorge and thus forms the impressive Ruacana Falls.Ruacana is situated in Kunene region in northern Namibia.In Ruacana is were indigenous people known as Ovahimba tribes settled and many Namibians enjoy visiting the waterfall, especial schools-tour to ruacana for studying purpose and to see the magnificent view of the waterfall and how the electricity is generated from water.
The waterfall used to generate hydroelectricity used by local peoples.From Ruacana onwards the Kunene flows in western direction marking the natural border between Angola and Namibia. This waterfall is the among most of tourist attraction in Namibia . In times of heavy rain the depth of the waterfall increase causing the water to over flow which eventually causes flood, which result damage people's properties such as house,grown crops and near by schools and environmental destruction. In terms of development, it reduce the unemployment rate in our country, mostly people employed as tour guide,cleaners,chefs,waitress and securities.
