[edit]The family history of late Mr. Ouseph, who had settled down at Ethikkayippuram, Thathampally from PURAKKAD. At that period of Alappuzha urban development was under the leadership of “Validivanji of Travancore” – Rajakesavadasan about 1780.
Followed by the missionary activities of St. Thomas from AD 52, a Brahmin family of Eera located between Kainady and Kurichi at present, Alappuzha District, was immersively impressed in Christianity and was Baptized. They were forced to migrate to the Various parts of central Kerala due to religious, social, political and finiancial reasons. Their migration is as follows:
When our ancestors had reached Purakkad, Purakkad and its neighboring areas were under the Chembakassery Kingdom – the one and only Brahmin Kingdom of that time. In those days, Purakkad port awas well known for species. Mean while due to various issues such as natural calamities, changes in political power and the establishment of Alappuzha Port caused the destruction of Purakkad Port. Following this, a group of Christians who were doing spices trade, started moving towards to Alappuzha under the leadership of “Thachil Mathutharakan” who was the right hand of Rajakesavadas for the development of Alappuzha Town .
Mean while five of our ancestral brothers reached at Thathampally area. Among these four families were “Kundathil, Prakkadan Veliyil, Ezhumanthuruthu and Puthenveedu (Vattakkari).
Among the above, the fifth family i.e. the family of Ouseph due to the influence of this brother-in-law of Kunnumkal family, migrated towards Ethikkayippuram and settled down there. The elder son of Ouseph, settled down at Ethikkayippuram itself and his younger son Varkey settled down at Parambilparambil.
The five sons of Kurian who settled down in Ethikkayippuram are Kurian, Thoma, Chandapillai, Ouseph, Varkey and each of them settled down in Thyparambu, Naluthengumkal, Kuttichira, Pokkathu and Ethikaippuram respectively.
