[edit]

[1] Maxie Wander was born in a proletarian quarter of Vienna. She started off rough as she left school at the age of seventeen and was in and out of working jobs as a factory worker, film writer and a secretary. Maxie Wander career kicked off after just her first book named Guten Morgen,Du Schone; Good Morning My Lovely. In the mid 1970s Wander conducted a large number of interviews with women of all ages in order to help her with her book. She spent much time collecting this material as she wanted to become an important part as a documentary and women's literature in Germany. Her book was published in 1977, the same year she was suffering from incurable cancer. She ended up dying the same year as her book was published. Before her death in 1977 she did get the chance to experience the immediate glory and positive feedback from her book. So she was able to witness the success that came with her book as there were 60,000 copies sold within one year in just the GDR alone and Maxie Wander remained an important figure in GDR literature long after her death from cancer.
