An adaptation of Mozart's Don Giovanni set in the gay club scene of the 1980's.

Introduction[edit]

The opera is directed by Dominic Gray, a well known actor and director whose theatre credits include West-end plays such as Hamlet, A Midsummer’s Night Dream. He has been in countless regional, UK and International tours, as well TV credits for ITV and the BBC. The musical score is taken care of by Rowland Lee who has abridged Tchaikovsky for Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, and is also composer for the BAFTA award winning children's show '64 Zoo Lane'. The libretto is to be translated by Ranjit Bolt. Ranjit’s list among his works Aristophanes ‘Lysistrada’ and Moliere’s ‘School for Wives’. In 2003 he was awarded an OBE for his services to literature.

Vince Clarke known for his participation in the musical duo Erasure, as well as Depeche Mode and Yazoo is adapting the ballroom minuet as a club tune of the 80's. On 21 May 2009, Vince Clarke was awarded by an "Outstanding Song Collection" prize, during the Ivor Novello Awards.

The first round of casting is now complete, Ben Thapa from G4 joins the creative team in the role of Alan (Donna Anna). Andrew Bain, the singing dentist, becomes Edward (Donna Elvira). Ellie Moran joins as Olga (Don Ottavio). Further casting will take place in June 2009.
