Karl-Alexander Seidel (born 27th August 1970 in Stuttgart / Germany) is a German automotive executive and Board member of Daimler Truck Innovation Center India Pvt. Ltd. since 2024 [1]. From 2020 to 2022, he was the chief executive officer of Daimler Buses India, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, Germany [2]. He also had roles with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., TASIAP GmbH and Daimler AG.

Education

Seidel earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Ulm, Germany.

Career

Seidel started his automotive career with PORSCHE AG 1996.

In 2001, Seidel joined Daimler AG as head of product creation process design. Under his lead, the creation of Daimler AG’s commercial vehicle subsidiary in India – Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. – was driven.

In 2007, he was the appointed as head of cross-functions and member of the Board of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.

In 2009, Seidel returned to Germany, as global head of homologation Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles. Under his lead, the new generation of heavy-duty engines were certified for EURO V, and the new generation of Mercedes Benz - Actros and Arocs – were certified for registration.

In 2013, he was appointed COO of TASIAP GmbH. Under his lead, three CKD plants for passenger cars, vans, trucks, buses and engines have been conceptualized and realized.

In 2015, Seidel returned to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. as head of supplier management powertrain and was appointed as COO of Daimler Buses India in 2016. Under his lead, the body building activities were insourced, the production capacity as well as the workforce was increased significantly, and the quality improved drastically.

In 2020, he took over the role of CEO of Daimler Buses India. [2] He maneuvered the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and integrated the Bus business into the Truck business of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., to make the business sustainable in the crisis and to secure the majority of jobs for the employees.

In 2021, Seidel was elected chairman of ASSOCHAM Tamilnadu Development Council, [3] 

In 2022, he was appointed as plant head of the Citibus plant in Mannheim, Germany. Under his lead the transformation of the production to 100% electric and hydrogen buses has been completed.

Since 2024, Seidel was appointed Vice President Chassis Design, Simulation and Digital Manufacturing Operations and member of the Board of DTICI – Daimler Truck Innovation Center India Private Limited.[1]

Seidel is the author of several leadership books [1] and a certified Coach of the Transformation Academy [2].

Personal life

He lives between India, Germany and Thailand.
