The HOYER Group is a transport and logistics company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.

History[edit]

Walter Hoyer founded the HOYER international freight forwarding company in 1946 and named it "Bruno Hoyer Internationale Fachspedition" after his father. The first vehicle to transport milk was acquired two years later, and was used to carry up to 250,000 litres of milk from Hamburg to Berlin every day. The first foreign subsidiary, Hoyer Nederland (Netherlands), was founded in Rotterdam in1960. The first overseas branch, Hoyer USA in New York, was added in 1980. The first vehicles with mobile Terminals followed ten years later.[1] From 1st July 1991, Walter Hoyer was the new Chairman of the Advisory Board of the HOYER Group, and his son Thomas Hoyer became its managing partner. HOYER started the IBC businessin 1994, and in addition to leasing, it also offers customer- specific transport and logistics solutions. Walter Hoyer, the HOYER Group's founder, died on 17th December 2002 at the age of 87. Thomas Hoyer takes over the position CEO. A new combi terminal was commissioned in Schkopau in 2005.[4] Ortwin Nast, the first non-family CEO, took over responsibility for the HOYER Group in October 2006. Thomas Hoyer is Chairman of the Advisory Board as of 2007. A newly-developed beer tank container came into use from 2012 onwards. The HOYER Group showed its social commitment in 2013 by publishing the "HOYER Sustainability Report", which presents key figures about sustainability and economics.[2]

The HOYER Group employs 6,476 staff in European and worldwide bulk products logistics in115 countries. The company has at its disposal 2,369 trucks, 2,656 tanker semitrailers, 43,128 IBCs, 39,156 tank containers and numerous logistics installations with depots, cleaning plants and workshops (as of 2017).

Friedel and Walter Hoyer Foundation[edit]

On the occasion of the company's 50-year anniversary in 1996, Walter and Friedel Hoyer set up the Foundation for the Advancement of Art and Culture together with charitable and social organisations devoted to helping young people and the elderly. By establishing the Foundation, the business couple achieved their great wish to give back part of their entrepreneurial success to the community.[3]
