Band Saavan

Saavan (Hindi : सावन) also known as Band Saavan are an internationally acclaimed Indian pop rock band composed of three members, plus four live band members from Delhi, India. The band was initially formed by four college students—Shashi Yadav (Lead vocals), Vinney MK (Keyboard), Parth (Guitars) and Abhishek (Drums)—in 2008. In 2011 the quartet disbanded, only to make a comeback with Shashi Yadav and Vinney in 2012. While the initial band rode the new wave of Indian pop music.

In 2009 the band released their debut album, Ehsaas. Their initial experiments with synthesized sounds and rhythms was not immediately recognized. Album Ehsaas, which included the critically acclaimed single "Meri Duniya". The song was first released on Reverbnation, and led the band to widespread fame. After the release of Ehsaas, the quartet disbanded to focus on their studies and careers. In 2013 Shashi Yadav, Himalaya Faugat, Dipesh Sharma, Dinesh Dagar and Vinney released PIA, which revived the band's popularity. This album included the single "Najaney Kyun", which was also available on youtube. In 2015 Saavan released their Second album, PIA, with the singles "PIA", “AAO CHALEIN”, “TU AAJA” and "YAHIN KAHIN". Saavan are acclaimed for their stringed rhythms and melodious, poetic songs written by Shashi Yadav. He has been writing lyrics for the band since its formation, Shashi the lead vocalist, Vinney composes, plays guitar and occasionally sings.



History

Quartet (2008–2011)

Pop music was becoming popular in India during the late 2007, with new artists emerging. In 2008, at the Punjab Group of Colleges in Chandigarh, three mates (Shashi Yadav, Vinney MK and Parth) formed a band. They called themselves “Ehsaas” after the host of their college welcome party asked for their name while they were being announced on stage. The band played songs with lyrics written by Shashi Yadav. Later the Band’s name changed from Ehsaas (Band) to Saavan. The band initially focused on medleys and then they came up with debut album “Ehsaas” (which was earlier band’s name). Despite being a lot of problems, the team worked together. They faced problems like money shortage and family problems, but they never quit.


Breakup (2011)


In 2011 the band with Independent Music India released a follow-up album “Ehsaas”. Soon the song "Meri Duniya" became popular on internet. It was also played during their hour-long show, making the song a nationwide hit. The band had a string of hits. However, their fame was short-lived and the quartet broke up. After Saavan disbanded, all the core members stayed apart and got busy in their lives.


Comeback (2011–2015)



In 2008-10 since Saavan were famous, their reputation had faded. All the quartet were away from each other. Although they had given up music, they still loved it. The New Year eve of 2011 saw another shakeup, since Abhishek and Parth were unavailable. Shashi and Vinney decided to re-form Saavan by themselves; this meant giving up their whole time. They recorded “Meri Duniya” again and re-released it along with other songs like “Aye Khuda”, “Tanha Chala”, and its success marked the band's comeback. Although Saavan were successful in India. They were unaware that a remixed version of "Jaaney Kyun" was being played in Indian clubs and had established their reputation. In November 2015 they reissued PIA

Music


Language

From their debut album Saavan to their Second album PIA, all songs are in Hindi. All lyrics are by Shashi Yadav.

Influences

Saavan music is influenced by Eastern classical music and Western rhythms. With an emphasis on Eastern melodies (including a touch of raga in the vocals), the band use flute and sarangi to give their vocals an Eastern touch.

Style

Saavan perform a blend of Western music and classical Eastern music, combining rhythmic guitar riffs with the tranquility of Eastern music. Their music is also based on worldly issues, emphasising world peace. Although Saavan’s' music revolves around a male lead singer, the band has also featured other artists on their albums. The music is based on love, peace and unity.
