Kenya R. McRae was born in Meridian, MS on May 4, 1976 to Curtis E. and Edna M. McRae. She is the youngest and the only girl in a family of three siblings.

She was raised on a farm in Yantley, Alabama approximately 2 miles from the Lauderdale County state line.

Kenya McRae graduated from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL with a BS in Computer Science. She also holds a Masters in Science in Business Administration.
