Spring Breakers is an American action-comedy film directed by Harmony Korine planned for release in 2013. The project, which was first heard in November 2011, is about four college-aged girls who decide to rob a fast food restaurant in order pay for their spring break.[1]

Premise

[edit]

Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper "Alien" promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.

Production

The project, which was written and directed by Harmony Korine, was first heard in November 2011.[1] The original lineup for the lead girls were Gomez, Hudgens, Korine and Emma Roberts.[2] Rachel Korine was the first to confirm in the project.[1] Roberts dropped out in early 2012 due to "creative differences that couldn't be resolved." Director Korine, however, had purposely collected a group of well-known young actresses with a similar reputation to Roberts in Hollywood.[3] James Franco's involvement was announced around the same time the girls' were.[4] It was revealed during rehearsals for the film, that Ashley Benson would replace Roberts in the project. The rehearsals had the girls practice gun shooting and bike riding.[5] For her role, Hudgens had to wear a blonde wig[6] while Franco underwent a drastic transformation, sporting a goattee, cornrows and a beating wife, during production.[7]

Filming began in March, around spring break, in mostly Florida beaches. The first day of filming closed down Corey Avenue for a scooter riding scene that was shot for almost 3 hours. The second day of production had the crew in Pinellas County. Most of the beach scenes were shot in beaches at St. Pete.[8] Gomez was first to wrap production in late March to attend 2012's Kid's Choice Awards and also to start production for her other film, Aftershock.[9]
