DeRuosi Nut is an independently owned food processor. The company is owned by The De Ruosi Group LLC D.B.A. DeRuosi Nut. DeRuosi Nut is a walnut processing facility located in California's central valley. They process both inshell and shelled walnuts and offer a vast variety of walnuts including Chandler, Hartley, Vina, Livermore and Howard.[1]
History[edit]
In 1947[2] Michael DeRuosi Sr. purchased an existing fruit dehydrator in Escalon, CA. Over the next several decades the plant processed raisins, apricots, prunes, and walnuts.[3] In 1994, after graduating with a business degree and working for a few years in the banking industry, Michael DeRuosi III moved back home to partner with his grandfather and form DeRuosi Nut. Since inception, the company has expanded slowly and conservatively into a business that is now one of the largest walnut processors in the world.[4]
The company remains based in Escalon, California and currently employs approximately 100 people.[5]
Livermore Red Walnut[edit]
DeRuosi Nut, which provides an assortment of California walnut varieties to markets in the U.S. and around the globe. In a news article Masonek said he is excited about how the Livermore is gaining popularity.[6]
“The red or Livermore walnuts do well anywhere that they are seen. In the overseas markets, they want the best of the best,” he said, adding that the red color is a big selling point in Asian countries, as it symbolizes happiness and good fortune. “China grows more walnuts than we do in the U.S., but they are a net importer; they eat all of their walnuts and import more.”
