Immersionists
[edit]The Immersionists were a community of Brooklyn artists, performers and writers who shared a philosophy of creative immersion in a common ecosystem.[1] Settling in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the late 1980s and early 1990s, this young dynamic community turned the streets, abandoned warehouses, rooftops and local community networks into an extended medium for creation.[2] The Immersionists’ sustained involvement in what was then an economically depressed area of New York, contributed substantially to a cultural renaissance that spread throughout Brooklyn.[3]
