{ Summary / Overview }
History
[edit]Hippocampal sclerosis was first described in 1880 by Wilhelm Sommer.
Causes
[edit]Much remains unknown about hippocampal sclerosis associated with ageing.[1]
Diagnosis
[edit]Hippocampal sclerosis is nowadays easy to detect with MRI.
Symptoms
[edit]Histopathological hallmarks of hippocampal sclerosis include segmental loss of pyramidal neurons, granule cell dispersion and reactive gliosis.
Prevalence, laterality, and comorbidity. [2]
Meisal temporal lobe epilepsy
[edit]Meisal Temporal Lobe Epilepsy [3] [4] Hippocampal Sclerosis with and without Meisal temporal lobe epilepsy [3]
Other
[edit]A long and ongoing debate addresses the issue of whether hippocampal sclerosis is the cause or the consequence of chronic, pharmacoresistant seizure activity.
