The ruling class among KACHARIS of the ancient KACHARI kingdom have mostly been referred to as DIMASAs

They first established their capital at PRAGJYOTISHPUR (now Guwahati) before the time of Mahabharata. Gatotkach was one of the greatest King of the Kingdom.This suggests the rule of Dimasa Kacharis is more than 5000 years old in the Brahmaputra valley.
