Genevieve Fisher
[edit]Genevieve Fisher is a Canadian Country Music Singer and songwriter. She is known for her vocals and expressive song writing[1]. She has garnered international recognition, performing at some of the biggest stages in Canada including Boots and Hearts Music Festival, Manitoulin Country Fest, Trackside Aboriginal Day Live, Havelock Country Jamboree and Lucknow Music In The Fields [1][2]
Early Life
[edit]Fisher was born in the city of London, Ontario to parents of Aboriginal and Italian descent.[3] When Fisher was two years old, her grandmother entered her into a music competition at the Ilderton Fair where she sang "You Are My Sunshine" [4]. She won the competition and has been singing since.
In 2014, Fisher graduated from University of Western Ontario's Don Wright Faculty of Music with a degree in popular music studies[4].
Career
[edit]Fisher is known for two popular hits one is " “Take It On Home” which climbed Canadian Top 20 and two is “You Me We”, which climbed Top 30 respectively[1]. She scored two number one hits on the North American Indigenous Top 40 broadcast internationally weekly.[3] Fisher has earned 7 top 50 national country radio hits[3].
In 2012, she was acknowledged by the Canadian Country Music Association with her performance 2012 New Artist Showcase in Saskatoon[3].
She has written Country music with the likes of Jason Blaine, Steven Lee Olsen, Patricia Conroy, Michelle Wright, Jason Massey and Jennifer Schott[3]. She has had opening performances for Hunter Hayes, Lee Brice, David Nail, Dean Brody and Great Big Sea[2].
Awards
[edit]Fisher had been nominated for Female Artist of the Year of 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 at the Country Music Association of Ontario Music Awards[3]. In 2017, "Take It On Home" earned her a nomination for the Canadian Radio Music Awards' Best New Solo Artist in the country genre[4].
Personal Life
[edit]Fisher currently resides in St. Thomas, Ontario with her husband Brian Shaw, son Harrison Robert and dog Lyla[5].
