Swung Glass is a kind of blown glass, or a reference to the technique for making it. It most often applies to vases. The technique was used by several glassworks, including L.E. Smith Glass Company, Viking Art Glass Company and by makers such as Fenton, Fostoria, Pilgrim and Tiffin to make vases.
These "swung vases" were made by pressing or blowing glass into a mold, reheating it and then swinging it while soft, until the neck gets longer. The mouth of the vase is then finished by tooling and polishing. Sometimes it is flared or ruffled. Most swung vases were made in the USA. In particular, Viking was known for its brightly colored vases.
