Indigenous resistances in Canada are conflicts of resistance initiated by Indigenous peoples in Canada against colonial settlers and the federal and provincial governments. Open conflict between Indigenous groups and settlers occurred in Canada from the 17th century to the 19th century. Contemporary armed resistances by Indigenous groups against the Canadian and provincial governments has continued into the 20th and 21st century. These series of conflicts resulted from a wide variety of factors. After the War of 1812, many conflicts involving Indigenous groups were regional and frequently involved disputes over land use.
