ROCK am RING
Rock am Ring is an annual music festival held in Germany. Rock am Ring takes place at Nurburging racetrack in west Germany. Rock im park is held around the Frankenstadion in Nuremburg. Although both of these events occur in different places, the two are considered the same festival, as all of the bands that play rock am ring also play rock im park. With an average attendance (to both events) of 150,000 it has become the largest music festival in Germany and also one of the largest in the world.
Rock am ring started in 1985 as a one off celebration for a shorter version of the racetrack. However due to its success, attracting a 75,000 audience, the festival became an annual event. However a lack of attendance commencing the year of 1988 caused the festival to be stopped for 2 years. 1991 saw the return of the festival with a new aim; to not only provide well known music and artists but also unknown and unsigned talent too.
As for Rock im park, its locations have varied through the years. It started in Vienna in 1993 then was moved to the Munich-Riem airport in 1994, then the following year to Munichs olmypiastdion, finally it has settled at the Frankenstadion or in the surrounding area.

There are numerous stakeholders involved in the Rock am Ring festivals. Sponsors are quite a large stakeholder. They pay the festival money for the use its reputation. The Rock am ring festival then advertise its sponsors all over the festival for example on the stages, in tents and sometimes on merchandise too. The sponsors of the current rock am ring festival are Suzuki, MTV, T-Mobile, Warsteiner, SWR3, Musikexpress, Rolling Stone and Metal Hammer. All of these sponsors are big names around the world and music industry so are an important stakeholder in the Rock am Ring. If the festival were to prehaps start to lose its fans like in 1988 it would surely cause some of these sponsors to back out of the event.
The surrounding environment is perhaps an overlooked stakeholder of the Rock am Ring. Considering the amount of people gathering for the festival, the amount of noise and litter that will be left is going to be greater than normal. This can affect not only people but the wildlife in the area too. However taking the situation of the festival into account, shows that organises have studied the affects on the area quite thoroughly. It is near alot of main roads in germany allowing easy access, there are no huge ecosystems present meaning that animals are unlikley to be affected and there appears to be no accomadation apart from hotels near the festival. If their were people that werent happy with the festival, pressure groups can usually be formed that raise the issue and with enough support they can take it to the government which can then go about sorting the issues. For example if there were too much noise then government could even go as far as relocating the festival. This is very unlikley however due to the lack of pressure and complaints, the location of the festival (not in anyones way) and the number of years it has been in its present place. (It would be too much aaggrevation for both government and the festival to move away).
The fans however are perhaps the biggest stakeholder in the festival. They are people that ultimately decide if the fesitval is a success or not. The most important factor for the fan is the music being played. It is therefore important for the festival to get the line up right. The heritage of Rock am Ring festival shows that its a rock/metal/alternative style of event. Acts such as Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rage Against The Machine always prove popular and is why the festival is often divided into super famous bands like the above and smaller bands that are currently up and coming like this year including: Airbourne, 30 seconds to mars and Ellie Goulding. It is this mixture that often appeals to the fans.
