Is there a rationale anywhere for naming bar "Austro-Bavarian" rather than "Bavarian"? Regardless, here's my two cents:

Austro-Bavarian could be argued as more accurate, but the data here needs to reflect common usage, and "Bavarian" is overwhelmingly more common when describing any variety (of Bavarian) used in the language area, whether or not it's in the state of Bavaria. For example, Cimbrian is usually described as a "Bavarian dialect", despite being spoken in Veneto, Italy. There's even a website out there called Bairische-Sprache.at (anecdotal, I know, but still). Anyways, these Google Scholar results speak for themselves:
