Sahana Jafer is a Mauritian artist who wears many hates. She is an awarded author, journalist and lecturer. Sahana published three book, In the Pursuit of greater good, Nemesis and Fall and Rise, for which she was awarded.

Her authorship

Sahana Jafer self published her first book in 2020. She was still a university student back then. The book called In the Pursuit of Greater Good, was a series of poems which followed the transition of negativity to positivity. She was able to win the hearts of many local readers and eventually set sail for a second book.

In 2021, she participated in the Commonwealth short Fiction story Writers contest and found herself longlisted. Through this journey, Sahana discovered she was skilled to write short stories as well, something she never tried before. She complied eight stories that she wrote and launched a limited edition book named Nemesis. As the name says it, Nemesis is a book of dark stories which question the human nature.

In 2022, she publishes Fall and Rise, her full length novel which portrays the life of a young girl who grew up in a underprivileged family in Mauritius, bound by patriarchy and victim of several injustice. She grows up with a step father and step siblings who never treated her well. She marries a man who only used her for his personal needs and she found herself all alone. The protagonist eventually develops an addiction to the idea of being free. Freedom qas equal to happiness. She runs away from home with a soon to be born child in her womb, following her quest to be happy. However, while on this journey, Samantha faces several challenges when she realizes that she is not even aware of what happiness really means. All her life she thought running away will make her happy but she was not happy.

The book portrays the theme of childhood trauma and all the delusions one could have due to that trauma. It does not only affect their own wellbeing but that of people around them as well.

Her career

Aside from being an author, Sahana Jafer is a journalist. She is a graduate of Curtin University and started her journalist career at Radio Plus/defimedia group where she got the chance to work with the elites in the local press world. Sahana discovered and learned many things about people's life and situation, about society and all its deeds, which turned her into a mature woman at a young age.
