The Manifesto of Dominican Independence was a written document conceived just before the founding of the Dominican Republic. It is the definitive declaration of independence of the nation, the platform on which the republic was founded and built on. This manifesto, written on January 16, 1844, presents the reasons that justifies the separation from the Republic of Haiti, explaining in word for word the grievances and suffering brought on by the Haitian occupation of Santo Domingo, which lasted from 1822 to 1844.
