Warm-summer lagging continental climate[edit]

This type of climate does generally not exist but would take a splitting sea between two continents that narrows the locations nearest to each other to essentially a narrow sound, favoured currents ensuring maritime end of summers and continental winters, a middle latitude etc.

Lommarby[edit]

This climate maintains a splitting sea effect between two large landmasses. The location sees a narrow sound between the two masses as well as two quite wide seas to its north and south, with multiple factors determining the extreme swings and astonishingly warm fall seasons for a continental climate.

When spring arrives strong southerly winds dominate, most often passing over warm areas over the interior at lower latitudes (the location itself would be at 43 degrees latitude). As a result, already in April daytime temps are solidly in the 20's. Cool air coming down from the mountains on both west (own landmass interior) and east (adjacent landmass interior) keep nights cool year round.

The longer the summer season goes the stronger the maritime influence gets. Winds get redirected and although always coming from the south, it passes over water extremely frequently all the way to October. The lower the sun angle gets the more increased the southerly winds become. As a result, September is the warmest month. Very strong southerly wind patterns drifting out on the warm sea keep days very mild until the end of October where the sharp continental dropoff begins as northerlies over the sea gain steam. By early December, those northerly winds start to have a strong pattern from the interior. By the turn of the new year, those interior winds start to come from the south or straight west again, moderating extremes during the cold months. Frequent low-pressure systems bring quite heavy snowfall concentrated to the three coldest months. By late February the southerly interior winds gain strong enough momentum to reproduce the pattern again.

Easthill[edit]

Easthill or Easthaven/Österkulle is located at 38 degrees latitude in a mediterranean hinterland at 800 metres elevation, only 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the coastline. It sits right beneath the hilltop, where much of the maritime air is blocked off during nights, but quite strong during the day, avoiding California-like extremes. During winter the high diurnal variations intensify, with 14 °C (57 °F) highs supplanted by almost daily light frosts and even a fair bit of overnight snowfall. The location is prone to foehn winds and freezing northerlies as well as heavy downpours in winter. Snow days are limited to once per winter month on average with overnight accumulations as high as 20 centimetres (7.9 in) possible. Summer afternoon humidity is limited to 40 % on this side of the hill, which along with sea breezes temper the heat. In winter humidity is higher, but highly variable depending on weather patterns.

Sunshine is high, with bright sun being frequent even in the midst of winter, due to the many days where the mediterranean low-pressure systems are located farther north. As a result of the hinterland warming effect, foehn winds and bright sunshine, heat extremes are as high as 43 °C (109 °F), although readings above 40 °C (104 °F) happens on average 0.7 times per year. As a result of the cool summer nights, no daily mean has ever topped 30 °C (86 °F), with a 29.8 being the hottest mean (42.8/16.8), with the overnight cooldown a reliable feature in summer. As a result of this, light frosts have been recorded in every summer month when the maritime air has been trapped on the other side of the hill, where overnight lows of above 15 °C (59 °F) is the norm.

East coast continental climate with small diurnal variation[edit]

This Dfa climate could possibly exist at an east coast location with significant maritime influence but with a massive continent to its west hindering the extreme moderation. It also has to be at around 42N to get sufficient water temps to provide the warm surface required for summer nights to stay so warm, and also seemlingly perennial cloudiness year-round to hinder vast diurnal swings.
