William J. Lindsay is an American politician. He currently serves as Suffolk County Legislator from the 8th district. He also serves as the Presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature.

Biography[edit]

Lindsay is a native of Long Island, having lived in Glen Cove as a child. He spent the majority of his life as an electrician. This career began through an apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers(IBEW), Local 25. Lindsay spent many years as a construction electrician. During this time lindsay and his wife Patricia purchased a home in Holbrook, New York, where they currently reside. The two started a family and had three children; Kathleen, Denise, and William. Lindsay eventually became involved in the operation of his union. During his service as a manager of IBEW Local 25, Lindsay served on numerous boards, including the Long island Housing Partnership and the Salvation Army.


Career as Business Manager of IBEW Local 25[edit]

Lindsay served as Business manager of IBEW Local 25 starting in 1992. His innovative leadership created flexible work schedules and expanded healthcare coverage for members of Local 25.


8th Legislative District[edit]

Lindsay ran for the 8th Legislative District in March of 2001. The special election came about as a result of the current legislator, Steve Levy, winning election to the New York State Assembly. Running on the Democratic line, he won election by a narrow margin. With his responsibility to the 8th Legislative district, Lindsay retired from his position within IBEW Local 25.
