Violinist Lydia Bassett came to Boston in 2009 as an Undergraduate at the Longy School Music of Bard College and immediately fell in love with the great city of Boston. She has found Boston to be full of possibilities and opportunities, the ideal place to feed her two passions, music education and “out of the box” performances.
As a well-known music educator in Arlington MA, at Klassical Kidz Music Studio, which she co-founded in 2009 with her sister Adrienne Bassett (harpist, graduate of Longy School of Music, MM) Lydia has made a name for herself as an experienced and sought after teacher who is dedicated to building arts appreciation in the younger generation.
As a performer Lydia has proved herself as serious musician in both the orchestral and chamber music world. She has been assistant concertmaster for the Longy Conservatory Orchestra for such performances as the Marriage of Figaro with Conductor Julian Pellicano and Dvorak Symphony No. 7 with Conductor Geoffrey McDonald. In May 2013 as an artist committed to the world of new music, Lydia premiered a Violin and Harp duo, Lost in a Memory by Jared Hettrick, which was very well received. Last year she joined the vibrant group of musicians that form the Latitude New Music Ensemble as Concertmaster.
Lydia has studied with violinist Benedict Goodfriend of the Kandinsky Trio, the teaching legend Eric Rosenblith, Kazuko Matsusaka of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and is currently studying with well- known chamber musician and soloist Laura Bossert at the Longy School of Music of Bard College while pursuing her Masters in Violin Performance.
Lydia is always looking for additional opportunities to unite her passion for arts integrations and performance opportunities that defy the standard norm. She strives to bring a new kind of listener to the concert hall by continuing to bring down some of the preexisting barriers between performers and audience.
