Men Nath (born on April 14, 1975 at Doung Khpos Commune, Bourei Cholsar District) is a human rights defender and border researcher for Cambodia. He is the president for the Cambodia Watchdog Council International - (Khmer [[1]]), Chairman for the Student Movement For Democracy (SMD)(Khmer [[2]] , and Chairman for the Khmer Buddhist Society in Norway [[3]].
Education
Men Nath (Norwegian: Nath Men) graduated higher Bachelor degree in "Teacher Education" at the University of Agder (UiA) in 2013 - University of Agder, and School Assistant (Associated bachelor program) in Norway 2011. Education background, he graduated bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the Royal University Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia [3] in 2000. and also graduated bachelor of Arts plus One in Psycho-Pedagogy (Teacher Education) at the National Institution of Education in 2001 "List of universities in Cambodia"[4].
Biography[edit]
Men Nath was born at Doung Khpos Commune, in 1975, as the last of 5 siblings (3 sisters). His father's name: Men Nin (Men Monint (ម៉ែន មនិន្ទ), official mane), was born in 1926 and died on May 24, 2006 with 80 years-old. His mother's: Ouk Aun (អ៊ុក អូន), was born in 1936 - she lives in homeland with 4th sister Men Phally (is called Men Mom). Men Nath lives in Kristiansand City, Norway. First life in Norway, he has arrived the Kristiansand Airport on January 26, 2006 (Read more: Background[[4]][1]. He has 3 children (a son, and 2 daughters).
He did the works as sensor for Khmer students at High School in Norway and also a school assistant. He is working as web-blog editor in Khmer, Norwegian and English, but it's volunteering.
As Community Leader in Norway - January 2010-Now: Men Nath is the Chairman for the Khmer Buddhist Society (KBS) [1]. The (KBS) is one of Buddhist traditions that Cambodians-Norwegians need to maintain their culture. The KBS was established in 1998, has 462 members (updated in December 2020) of all the 606 Cambodians-Norwegians (updated in Sept 2019)[5].
Cambodia human rights defender and border researcher[edit]
June 07, 2020-Now: Men Nath is Chairman of Board Director for the Student Movement for Democracy (SMD), based in USA [1] - [1]. That is SMD-2 or SMD-rebirth. On September 02, 1998 the SMD was created to organize the mass demonstration against (1.) national election result in July, and (2.) Hun Sen's candidate to new Government. Men Nath was a founder of the SMD.
He is President for the Cambodia Watchdog Council International (CWCI Cambodia), based in Norway from May 24, 2006 until now. [1] - [1]. On the border issues with Vietnam, he always urges the Cambodia Government to resolve the territorial integrity by removing all the abnormal Agreements and Treaties, and then Cambodia must files a complaint against Vietnam with the International Court of Justice, Paris Peace Accord on Cambodia in 1991 and the UN to find a resolution [6]. He did so while the border deputes of Cambodia and Thailand at the Preah Vihear Temple in 2008. He called for both sides to negotiate and wrote the the letters to UNESCO about the real situation of conflict between Cambodia and Thailand [7].
Cambodia national and communal elections - Men Nath is always writing Statements and Press Releases to concern with both human rights and political situation in Cambodia. Sometimes he interviews with the media about these. This is an of many examples: The Norway-based Cambodia Watchdog Council International {CWCI} has appealed to Cambodian people not to vote in the upcoming national election unless the former opposition CNRP were allowed to run. An appeal letter on Feb 22, 2018 signed by CWCI chairman Men Nath, said Prime Minister Hun Sen needed the votes of more than 50 percent of the total number of eligible voters across the country. [8].
On October 14, 2005: Men Nath was threatened to arrest by Mr Prime Minister HUN Sen after the Cambodia Watchdog Council (CWC) released the Statement against the [illegal] Supplemental Border Treaty with Vietnam [1]. He left Cambodia on 14 October and arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on 15 October. In November he got the political asylum from UNCHR to resettle as new life in Norway, but he couldn’t directly fight from Bangkok because Thai Government was very good co-operation with Hun Sen, the Cambodia Prime Minister. In January 2006, he and another colleague as fishermen {like clothes and documents} left Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They met an officer at Norwegian Embassy there, and one week later, they flight to Norway. Flight time – from Kuala Lumpur on 25 January and arrived Kristiansand City on 26 January.
