Under Main Entry (After first paragraph) Mobile Caller ID is a wireless phone service that transmits a caller’s name and number to the called party’s wireless phone beginning with the ringing cycle. The service provides the call recipient with the calling name and number even if the information is not already stored in the recipient’s contact list in the wireless phone.

HISTORY (After the 1995 Bellcore Paragraph at end of section) In 2007, Monica Martino, of I D You, LLC, invented Mobile Caller ID for wireless phones. Before Mobile Caller ID, only 10-digit calling phone numbers (ANI) and not names could be received on wireless devices during incoming calls, with the exception of those contacts stored in the wireless phone. Martino wrote the underlying code and demonstrated the feasibility of a functioning Mobile Caller ID. When a call arrives at a mobile device and the number is not already stored in the recipient’s contact list, a data IP transaction is initiated which results in the calling name being sent to the mobile phone. Similar to Caller ID on POTS lines, a caller’s name and number information are visible on the wireless device’s screen; often in real-time before the call recipient answers.

In June 2008, Allen, Texas-based I D You became the first to introduce Mobile Caller ID service for wireless phones. I D You’s Caller ID service, Privus Mobile, is generally available to end users in the marketplace by downloading the application. The service works on most smart phones and is not associated with or limited to any particular wireless carriers.
