Starting points

  • Tags for image pages:
    • {{subst:nsd}} if an image has no source indicated
    • {{subst:nld}} if an image has a source but no licensing information
    • {{subst:orfud}} if an image has a fair use tag but isn't used in any articles
    • {{subst:frn}} if an image has a fair use tag but no fair use rationale and was uploaded after May 4, 2006
    • {{no copyright holder|month=December|day=|year=2006}} if an image has no info at all, no source, no tag. (must add day)
    • {{PUIdisputed}} Possibly unfree image - dispute copyright status
  • CSD for images:
    • CSD I1: {{isd|Full name of image excluding the "Image:" prefix}} or {{redundant image|filename}} for speedy deletion if the other image is on Wikipedia, not on Commons
    • CSD I1:{{NowCommons|image name on Commons}} if the image now exists on Commons, or {{NCT}} for images with the same name on Commons
    • {{db-noimage}} corrupt image, rare
    • {{db-noncom}} non commercial, typically done by bot
    • {{db-ccnoncom}} cc non commercial, typically done by bot
    • {{db-badfairuse}} clearly invalid fair use rationale, must notify user first
  • General purpose images:
    • {{ifd}} for other images that just shouldn't belong here (follow instructions on IFD template under hide/show) (see jargon below)
    • {{subst:idw-multi|Image:One|Image:Two}} Can handle up to 20 images.
    • {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} Request copy/move to Commons for use on all projects.

IFD jargon:

  • AB or AU (absentee uploader) - The uploader has not contributed to Wikipedia in a long time, and is probably unavailable to answer questions.
  • CV (copyright violation) - The image might be used in violation of copyright.
  • LQ (low quality) - The image is of an extremely low resolution, distorted, or has other physical image quality concerns.
  • OB (obsolete) - The image has been replaced by a better version. Indicate the new image name.
  • OR (orphan) - The image is not used on any pages in Wikipedia. Please note: in this context, OR does not refer to original research
  • UE (unencyclopedic) - The image doesn't seem likely to be useful in this encyclopedia.
