From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macula Lutea - Latin meaning "yellow spot". My trusty Langenscheidt's New College Merriam-Webster English Dictionary (copyright 1998) goes on to tell that it is a "small yellowish area lying slightly lateral to the center of the retina that constitutes the region of maximum visual acuity"

acuity - keenness of perception, sharpness
