Mamoud Sam is “Ghaolo Pulah” Born in January 16th 1977 in the great Nioro of Kayes. Nephew of one the best known artist from Mali, Alou Sam, Mamoud has been singing from new born birth parties to weddings as traditional “Ghaolo” culture. “Ghaolo, continue to play important roles as healers, diviners and musicians. When they meet on festive occasions the, “Ghaolo’ (sometimes called Nyamakala– “string-playing unique, traditional songs as old as the first Nioro habitants”) Which will will follow by six-string harps and sing vivid epic stories of legendary Mali hunters.
Trying to globalize his “Ghaolo music, he started mixing tradition and modern rhythms in 1998 He had his first successful in 2002 with Baabam
After financial difficulties he travel to the Ivory Coast in 2003 to sale shoes and clothes
Feeling depressed for not been able to sing and honor his tradition, he decided to return to Mali in 2007 to regain a sense of pride for his great “Ghaolo heritage.
With his unique talent he was able to get a hit with Djobaadio, a year after his return.
Getting busy from booking to weddings he got back to the top after advocating thru music for the release of his best friend, Petit Guimba, from prison in 2016
After years on top, he released his best hit “Djugu ngalon” after been falsely Accused by his ex-girl’s boyfriend,
Mamoud Sam is top of his game after touring with his mentor, AlouSam in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and New Jersey in November 2018.
