Categoria:!Artigos com imagem local porém sem imagem no Wikidata Gustavo von Ha, artistic name of Gustavo Maiolini von Ha (Presidente Prudente, August 27, 1977), is a visual artistic, based in São Paulo. According to or the artist himself, he does not fit into an artistic category; he makes experiments with new media[1] and materials with strong conceptual influence.

Biography[edit]

Von Ha has a bachelor's degree in Communication at the University Oeste Paulista, in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo.[2] [3] His production is structured in a performative action that goes throughout all the artist’s research period and lies within the limits between reality and fiction; authorship and cultural industry within the contemporary art context.[4] [5]

Von Ha's production emerges from investigations that unfold in many cores of works that operate inside and outside of the art system; infecting several platforms and circuits of images such as internet, movie theaters, informal sector and art market itself.

Von Ha works with the concept of verisimilitude. He incorporates one version of himself in each work, materializing images often silenced in the Brazilian art history academics. This strategy also problematizes the role of the artist these days. The artist is interested in issues beyond the hegemonic narratives. His production is structured in a performative action that goes throughout all the artist’s research period and lies within the limits between reality and fiction; authorship and cultural industry within the contemporary art context.[4] [6] Among his most famous works are the drawing series Tarsila do Amaral and José Leonilson and the Heist Films Entertainment project which put his work on a circuit beyond the limits of art, spreading through the internet, stores, street vendors, cinema and TV.

In 2005, he participated in the research group of artist Leda Catunda at Faculdade Santa Marcelina, in São Paulo. Leda was one of the main references in his work, especially in terms of "image appropriation".

In 2010, he was part of the select group of artists chosen by the curator Adriano Pedrosa to compose the first class of PIESP [Independent Program of Escola São Paulo]. In the same year, he began to develop the most daring project of his entire career: Heist Films Entertainment, launched by Veja magazine in December 2011. [7]

In 2012, he showed the T.L. series for the first time, at Galeria Leme, in São Paulo. In this work, the artist incorporates Tarsila do Amaral and José Leonilson and assumes their authorship, presenting a series of mirrored drawings identical to the originals.

In 2014, he won the the Fine Arts Award Marcantônio Vilaça (FUNARTE) for Heist Films Entertainment project and presented it over three floors of the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, in Curitiba. The exhibition had a record attendance.

Between 2014 and 2018, he participated in important individual and collective exhibitions, such as MAM (2018); Bienal do Mercosul (2018)[8]; Bienal Sur (Argentina, 2017)[9] and MAC - USP (2016 / 2017)[10][11][12].

In 2019, he participated in the renowned artist residency Yaddo, in Saratoga Springs, New York.

His work is featured in private and public collections, such as Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, MAR [Museu de Arte de Rio] and MAC-USP [Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo].[13]

Heist Films Entertainment Project[edit]

Heist Films Entertainment, consists in the invention of a film production company with the aim of discussing boundaries between reality and fiction, mechanisms of image production, cultural industry, instant celebrity and intellectual property[38] The first from the series was TokyoShow [A Busca do Amor, in portuguese].

The trailers were shown on the internet and in movie theaters (it ran for 4 years at the Cultural Reserve, in São Paulo, and 1 month in movie theaters in Atlanta), followed by all the publicity devices used by the film industry such as posters, DVD, banners and media dissemination, making them indistinguishable from “real” works.

For the construction of "movies that do not exist", it was essential to use cliches as artifices for representation. In virtually all synopses of commercial films (mainly U.S.) expressions like "looking for love", "contagious", "exciting" or "amazing ", such elements have been appropriated in the construction of these pieces of divulgation.

TokyoShow, was the first trailer of the project, featuring Alessandra Negrini and Nilton Bicudo.[7]
