Themed biota photographic competition will
- be for a period of three months during which the competitor will
- upload a portfolio of images to wikicommons; and
- incorporate some or all of the photographs into new or existing enwiki pages
A first prize of $1000, second prize of $500 and a third prize of $100 will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
Photographs must be the competitor's own, and be uploaded by the competitor.
While we expect out competitors to insert their photographs into articles, and to start articles for species not yet having a page in enwiki, the judging will be about the usefulness of the images to enwiki. Thus galleries of images inserted into already existing articles where perhaps
Examples of possible themes might be: Native plants of western New South Wales, Spiders of Western Australia, Native Bees of Australia...or Protected areas of the Northern Territory. Whatever the photographer can see as a useful addition to enwiki.
Themes involving plant species will lend themselves to the creation of galleries within an article. For a plant it is desirable to have closeups of leaves, flowers, buds, fruit and habitat, together with images which may show key points in the plant's description such as the colour and venation differences between the upper and lower leaf surfaces. Points will be awarded
If a wikipage already exists together with an image, no points will be awarded if in the opinion of the judges the replacement image is not better than the existing image.
