Wuhan No.2 High School is a famous provincial key important school and provincial demonstrative school. It located at the north side of the Zhongshan Avenue of Hankow, Wuhan. Its predecessor is Hankow No.2 High School during the Second Sino-Japanese War.[2]

Wuhan No.2 High School is one of the three top high schools in China recognized by Peking University.[3]

History

In the end of 1939, After studying at Tokyo Imperial University, Cheng Wenhua, who was from Huangzhou, returned to China to set up Private Guangya High School with Cheng Deyi. At that time, the school site was selected at the Xiakou County Office, Hongyi Lane, Minquan Road, Hankow.

In the spring of 1942, Private Guangya High School was handed over to the Hankow city government and renamed Hankow No.2 High School.

In the end of 1944, at the age of the fall of Wuhan in the Anti-Japanese War, Hankow No.2 High School was closed down due to the bombing of US military.

In 1944, The current location of the school is a primary school run by the Japanese in the Japanese Concession in Hankou during the Anti-Japanese War, which is called Meiji Ordinary High School[4].

In May of 1946, The Hankow city government decided to restore and rebuild the Hankow No.2 Boy's School and designated Chen Zhi to conduct preperation work on the site of Meiji Ordinary High School.

In 1949, before the Proclamation of the People's Republic of China, due to the merger of Hankou city, Wuchang city, and Hanyang Region to form Wuhan City, the Hankow No.2 Boy's School was renamed Wuhan No.2 Boy's School. The principal was Fang Wei

In 1949, after the proclamation of the People's Republic of China, the school was officially titled Wuhan No.2 High School and became one of the first three key high schools in the Direct-administered municipality.In 1953, the school became one of the first key school in central south region. After the greater administrative region was revoked, it became a provincial key high school.At the begining of 1960s, the school started to admit girl students and being determined to be one of the eighteen key high school in the province. The location of the Wuhan No.2 High School is near the Yongqing section of the Zhongshan Avenue, The Second Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, Wuhan Tiandi mall and Wuhan Metro Huangpu Road station.
