My name is John Higgins. I am a retired British Council officer and university lecturer. My main professional interests have been CALL (computer-assisted language learning), phonetics with a special interest in minimal pairs and sound/spelling oddities. Since retiring I have been concentrating on researching the life and works of Victor Canning, a writer I admire who, after great success in the 1960s and 1970s, has become neglected and whose reputation is worth restoring.
