I headed the research program Ambient Heat, Waste Heat, Combined Heat and Power of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) from 1993 to 2002 and subsequently carried out numerous scientific expert reports for this Federal Office. From 1994 to 2002 I was the Swiss delegate in the executive committee of the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme on Heat Pumping Technologies. I have no commercial interests in heat pump technology.

As part of a mandate, the Federal Office of Energy commissioned me to compile a comprehensive history of the development of the heat pump. In addition to several papers, this led to the books Geschichte der Wärmepumpe (out of print) and History of Heat Pumps as an English translation. The previous text in chapter "Heat pump", Section 2 "History" is unsatisfactory. Containing imprecise and partly false statements it does not meet scientific requirements. However I added two new statements on 2021-11-20. But the whole text should be rewritten.
