Brennan of the Cove[edit]

"Chimera of Arezzo": an Etruscan bronze

Mythical figure found often in recent American literature and - more rarely - in Greek mythology. Researchers are still trying to link appearances of "Brennan of the Cove" in American and ancient Greek literature. The creature is said to wear the appearance of the Greek mythical Chimera and, at times, a cyclop. In at least 3 appearances, the creature was also referred to as Numbnuts, or Numb Nuts.

Polyphemus, by Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, 1802 (Landesmuseum Oldenburg)
