TMEM202

[edit]

Genetic Overview

[edit]

Transmembrane gene 202 (Homo sapiens, TMEM202), encodes the protein TMEM202 and is a member of the Claudin2 superfamily[1][2]. Human paralogs include LIMP2, GSG1, CLDND2, NKG7[3]. The function of TMEM202 is still largely unknown, but other Claudin2 superfamily proteins plays important roles in paracellualar transport by contributing to the structure of gap junctions[4]. Claudin proteins often form protein-protein interactions in epithelial and endothelial tissue, contributing to the scaffolding of the tight junction.

TMEM202 Gene

[edit]

The TMEM202 gene spans 10,063 nucleotides on chromosome 15 located at 15q23-q24.1 and on the forward strand.[2]

TMEM202 mRNA Transcript

[edit]

The mRNA transcript of TMEM202, transcript variant 1 spans 1,318 nucleotides.[5] TMEM202 demonstrates low expression restricted to the testis.[6]

TMEM202 Protein

[edit]

TMEM202 is found in cell membranes and is classified as a multi-pass protein as it consists of four transmembrane domains with helical structure and one disordered region.[2][7]
